When Miss Malaysia Universe 2011 Deborah Priya Henry was excluded in the Miss Universe 2011 semi-finals, fans and pageant experts were totally surprised. Many believed, including BeautyMania.biz, that Henry deserved a placement. With her exclusion in the semi-finals, pageant fans unanimously awarded her the 2011 Ruth Ocumarez Award - an award given to a candidate who received "injustice" in the Miss Universe pageant.
We asked our readers about the main reason why Ms. Henry did not make the cut and here are their responses:
- 27.4% of almost 7, 300 respondents believed that Miss Malaysia Deborah Henry delivered poor performance during the Miss Universe 2011 preliminaries, and that is why she failed to make the cut.
- 26.03% of the respondents believe that Miss Malaysia was excluded in the semi-finals because of politics since Malaysia is a Muslim country and the United States, where Miss Universe Organization was based, are currently encountering diplomatic difficulties with the Muslim dominated countries like Malaysia.
- 20.55% of the respondents believe that Ms. Henry's exclusion in the semi-finals was due to sash factor since many Malaysian candidates delivered poor performances in Miss Universe for decades.
- Also, 13.7% believed that Miss Malaysia might have an attitude problem, or attitude problem from one of her relatives attending the Miss Universe events. According to some sources, Ms. Henry's father publicly expressed his negative criticism against Miss Philippines, Shamcey Supsup, during the preliminaries and some the Filipino fans at the Credicard Hall expressed their dismay against Mr. Henry.
- Meanwhile, 12.33% of the respondents believe that Ines Ligron, Miss Malaysia's trainer, played a lesser role in Deborah Henry's exlcusion. Ligron recently protested against a preliminary judge who personally met another candidate before the preliminaries. The said protest created a negative impression against Miss Universe Organization.
