Princess Beatrice of York is about to sell her phenomenal royal wedding hat on eBay for charity purposes.
The hat, which was designed by Philip Treacy, has been derided as one of the biggest fashion errors of the century, and now being sold to eBay with an aim to raise bundle for the UNICEF.
Beatrice's mother Sarah Ferguson announced on Oprah that the infamous head piece will go for auction.
"She’s putting it up on eBay to auction it for UNICEF and for children in crisis," Ferguson told Oprah in an interview last Wednesday, May 11th.
Beatrice’s headpiece was one of almost 40 hats Treacy created for the royal wedding guests. Although his design has become so mocked that its’ spawned a 130,000-member strong Facebook fan page — “Princess Beatrice’s Ridiculous Royal Wedding Hat ”.
Princess Beatrice and her sister Eugenie didn’t request their controversial looks, Treacy said in an interview. Instead, they trusted Philip, a longtime friend to the Royal Family, to make them “beautiful" and "elegant".
He added, "Gorgeous and beautiful can be open to interpretation … I thought they looked gorgeous and beautiful. But no one is crying if anyone didn’t."
The 22-year-old princess is known for wearing bizarre hats, and her latest made the whole world noticed her. A Facebook page dedicated to the beige creation has gathered more than 136,000 fans, while numerous spoof photos have been posted on the internet showing figures including Barack Obama and his cabinet wearing it.
