Recognizing the most popular Latin music on the charts , the Billboard Latin Music Awards features top solo performers & Latin groups vying for top honors in such categories as pop, rock, tropical, Mexican regional music and Reggaeton.
In 2011, nominees were announced on February 10.
The award ceremony was broadcast on Spanish-language television station Telemundo airing live from the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami on Thursday evening April 28, 2011 at 8PM.
Pop singer Enrique Iglesias led this year with a total of 14 nominations, followed by another crossover mega-star, Shakira, with 13 nods.
On awards night, there were live performances by Enrique Iglesias, Luis Fonsi, JenCarlos Canela and Gloria Trevi among others.
Special awards this year were bestowed upon Latin music veteran Gloria Estefan who received Billboard's 'Spirit of Hope' Award for her philanthropic work. Joining Estefan was musician Emmanuel who was also honored with Billboard's Lifetime Achievement Award.
