MANILA, Philippines - American Idol star David Archuleta is set to go back to the Philippines on January 13 to shoot a primetime TV series for TV 5, one of the largest TV networks in the country, where he will be the main protagonist.
Archuleta, according to the reports, will do a mini TV series with local stars Jasmine Curtis Smith and Eula Caballero. The said reports were confirmed by TV 5 itself last Sunday, January 8.
InterAksyon.com, TV5’s online news portal, posted also on Sunday stated, “The signing of Archuleta is seen to further boost the attempts of TV5, currently the third biggest broadcasting network in the Philippines, to climb up the rankings... The signing of an international star of Archuleta's youth and talent, arguably in his prime, is bound to shake up the Philippine entertainment industry.”
Although the story concept of the upcoming TV series is still not available, rumors tell that Archuleta will do a role of an Filipino-American singer who is on search for his Filipina mother.

However, prior to this announcement, Archuleta said in an interview on December 19 during his Christmas tour in Salt Lake City that he will temporarily leaving the music industry to fulfill his obligations as a missionary of Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints.
But on January 9, Archuleta confirmed to his website that he will arrive in the Philippines to do the said TV series.
The 21-year-old Archuleta placed second at the American Idol contest in 2008. Prior to his upcoming TV series stint, he already performed in the Philippines thrice.
