MOSCOW, Russia - 18-year-old Elizaveta Golovanova has been crowned as Miss Russia 2012 in an extravagant pageant finale held at Barvikha Luxury Village Concert Hall in Moscow Saturday evening.
The 1.78m beauty from Smolensk will represent Russia in both Miss World 2012 and Miss Universe 2012 pageants.
Is this a bad sign? The Miss Russia crown fell from Golovanova's head moments after her coronation. |
Golovanova was crowned by her predecessor, Natalia Gantimurova. The Miss Russia crown worth USD 1 Million fell from Golovanova's head moments after her coronation. The impact resulted to some breakage of the crown's surface.
Meanwhile, Kristina Gontar was named first runner-up and pageant fan favorite Alena Shiskova placed second runner-up.

Invited among the judges is the reigning Miss World 2011 Ivian Sarcos who served as one of the judges. And for the first time, a Miss Universe titleholder was not invited in the same event. Some pageant analysts, however, quoted that the organizers have decided not to invite Miss Universe 2011 Leila Lopes to the event because of some undetermined issues between the organizers of Miss Russia pageant and the Miss Universe Organization.
