AFP / LA PAZ — Bolivian transgender Dayana Saucedo (photo) announced her intention on participating in the Miss Bolivia beauty pageant and will ask for admission to the organizers of the event in the country, after finding out that she has a right to compete.
“Of course I want to compete, I would love to become Miss Santa Cruz, Miss Bolivia and go to Miss Universe. I have the same rights as other women to represent my country” said Dayana, after an interview to local newspaper El Deber.
Blonde Dayana asked to Promociones Gloria, organizers of the annual beauty pageant, to “open their mind, to accept us because we are a reality and we exist”.
If accepted, Dayana would become the first transexual in Bolivian history to compete in a national beauty pageant.
She added that her sex-change operation took place in Chile and is right now in the middle of all the legal procedures to change her sex from M to F. She added she is also in love with a man whom she hopes to marry and be able to adopt kids someday.
Saucedo said she was satisfied by the decision of the Miss Universe pageant of admitting transgenders due to the Canada case, where Jenna Talackova was re-admitted in the pageant after being barred, for being born a man.
