LOS ANGELES - The White Guy with the White Guitar finally wins!
American Idol season 11 grand finale was held at Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on May 23. A record-breaking 132 Million votes has been cast around the world.
The winner for this season is Phillip Phillips. The 21-year-old from Leesburg, Georgia defeated Jessica Sanchez, a Filipino-Mexican-American and another top contender for the title. His victory marked the long list of male American Idol winners.
Prior to the announcement of winners, Phillips performed songs "Stand By Me", "Movin Out" and his original song entitled "Home". Phillips succeeded Scotty McCreery as the winner of American Idol. He also performed dueted with with John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival for
"Have You Ever Seen The Rain" and "Bad Moon Rising".
Meanwhile, fans of Jessica Sanchez were frustrated with the results, although the16-year-old singer from San Diego warmly congratulated the winner.
Sanchez ended as second placer, and performed hits Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing", "The Prayer" by Celine Dion, and her own single "Change Nothing". She also performed a duet with
Jennifer Holliday for a breath-taking rendition of "And I Am Telling You I'm
Not Going".
On the other hand, according to some sources, Phillips will undergo a kidney surgery in his hometown after the season finale.
