Oscar nominee Amy Adams cast as Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman remake movie, filling iconic shoes worn at various times by Noel Neill, Margot Kidder, Teri Hatcher and Kate Bosworth.
She will play the enterprising Daily Planet journalist and key love interest opposite British actor Henry Cavill, who was previously cast as Superman/Clark Kent. Diane Lane and Kevin Costner will play his adoptive parents.
Zack Snyder ("Sucker Punch") will direct the Warner Bros. project, which is set for a December 2012 release.
"Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about," Snyder said in a statement Sunday. "So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful."
Adams received an Oscar nomination this year for her supporting role in "The Fighter."
Neill played Lois Lane in the 1950s TV series starring George Reeves, while Kidder brought the role to the big screen in the Christopher Reeves movies. More recently, Hatcher played Lane in the TV series "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," while Bosworth took over in the 2006 feature "Superman Returns."
