The first time it has happened in a beauty pageant:25-year-old Alejandra Barillas has been reinstated as Miss Guatemala again, and this time she was crowned by her second runner-up, Jessica Schell.
Barillas won the competition in 2010, which entitled her to participate in the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas but she suffered a lesion in her ankle, weeks before the Miss Universe competition, which ended her dreams of becoming the first Guatemalan to win the coveted title. She was eventually replaced by her 2nd runner-up, Jessica Schell.
Schell ranked 9th during the Miss Universe 2010 finals held at the Mandalay Bay resort.

In 2011, due to a change in schedule of the Miss Guatemala pageant, the organization, headed by Alex Orellana, together with its sponsors, decided to give Barillas the chance to represent the country at the Miss Universe 2011 pageant to be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Miss Guatemala 2011 is supposed to be held on October. Meanwhile, the organization did not mention who will represent Guatemala at the 2011 Miss World pageant to be held in London on November 8th.
