ENTERTAINMENT PARADISE: Popular Songwriter Jerry Leiber passed away


Songwriter Jerry Leiber (photo) died of cardiopulmonary failure at the age of 78. Leiber and his songwriting partner, Mike Stoller, wrote 15 No. 1 hits and both have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The duo wrote “Hound Dog,” the Elvis Presley classic, and the Ben E. King hit “Stand by Me.” 


Terry Stewart, president of the Hall of Fame and Museum, said of Leiber, “Jerry not only wrote the words that everyone was singing, he led the way in how we verbalized our feelings about the societal changes we were living with in post–World War II life.”
