Songwriter Jerry Leiber (photo) died of cardiopulmonary failure at the age of 78. Leiber and his songwriting partner, Mike Stoller, wrote 15 No. 1 hits and both have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The duo wrote “Hound Dog,” the Elvis Presley classic, and the Ben E. King hit “Stand by Me.”
