CHENGDU, China - 22-year-old Maria Fernanda Cornejo, Miss Ecuador, was crowned Miss International 2011 in a pageant held at Sichuan Opera Theatre in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China Sunday evening. Her crowning marks the first victory of Ecuador in Miss International pageant.
Cornejo, who stands 1,.78 m. tall, is a top model in her country. She studies nutrition at Universidad de Especialidades Espiritu Santo. She enjoys singing, playing basketball, and doing pilates.
Meanwhile, hailed as first runner-up is crowd favorite Jessica Barboza of Venezuela. She is former Miss Earth-Water 2009 titleholder and stands 1.79m. tall.
Second runner-up was Mongolian beauty Tugsuu Idersaikhan. Completing the top 5 were Misses Panama (Keity Mendieta Britton) and Puerto Rico (Desiree Del Rio).
Rest of the top 15 were: Brazil (Gabriella Marcelino), Latvia (Lelde Paulsone), Lebanon (Maria Farah), Netherlands (Tali Hertsenberg), Philippines (Dianne Necio), Russia (Elena Chepilchenko), Sweden (Denise Andree), Thailand (Kantapat Peerdachainarin), Trinidad & Tobago (Renee Bhagwandeen) and Vietnam (Truong Tri Truc Diem).
